Safe in His Arms (Life Unexpected #1): Book Review

My Thoughts:

I don’t often read romance novels. They just are not my cup of tea. But the synopsis of Safe in His Arms sounded quite intriguing, so I decided to give it a try. And it didn’t disappoint.

Romance

My main concern was with the romance/dating which there wasn’t an overload of. There were a few undetailed kisses. (Thank goodness they were undetailed or I would not have finished reading the book.) There were also a couple one-on-one dates which don’t line up with my dating/courting standards, but it was clean so I was okay with it. All-in-all I thought the romance was well-written and wasn’t too much for this non-romantic reader. 😜

Characters

The characters were really good! Anastasia (aka Anna) was different, but I liked her. And so did Joel evidently. 😉 Joel was such a nice guy. (Though I must say, I would totally be annoyed if someone was trying to pry into my backstory as much as he was with Anna. I know it was all out of honest concern and necessary for the plot, but if that happened in real life, I’d be really ticked off.) I also really liked Chess, mostly because he was a gun-owner, but I also loved his whole overprotective, big-brother vibe. And Brooke was sweet as well. She would be a nice friend (although she could do a lot better in her choice of dates). Liam, on the other hand, was a genuinely creepy, evil dude, and I have no more to say about him. (Also the dog was amazing. Definitely added to the story. *thumbs up*)

Plot

As for the plot, well, it was exciting enough that I read the whole book in a few hours. (And that is saying a lot, especially since I’ve been in a reading slump as of late.) Of course, I wasn’t so interested in the romance side of it. It was the action, the danger that I found pulling me into the story. There were a couple scenes from Liam’s POV which helped keep the suspense high while also showing how evil of a dude he was. The suspense definitely built up by the end. I can’t really say much more, though, since I don’t want to give away any spoilers. 😅 I’ve read books with more suspense, but this one was still really good and very well written.

Conclusion

I’d give Safe in His Arms 3.5 stars and recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance novels, especially with a dash of danger and suspense. 😉
